A lifetime of reading is a life-long treasure hunt.

The Friends were incorportated as a Non-Profit Charitable Organization in November, 1981.

In 1995, Mr. Douglas Redgrave, a devoted supporter of the Port Angeles Library, died and left the bulk of his estate to the Port Angeles Friends of the Library with instructions that it be used for the support of the Port Angeles Branch Library.

The Trust has been managed from its inception by James Hallett Associates of Port Angeles in conjunction with a committee of Friends. The Financial Advisory and Budget Committee (FABCOM) is required by the Friend's by-laws to consist of at least three persons, one of whom must be a Governing Board Member.

A formula is in place to determine funds available annually for grants to the library. It is agreed that 90% of the total net earnings of the Trust may be utilized for grant funding. The remaining 10% is retained in the body of the Trust.

In addition to Trust funds, the Friends operate the bookstore, with funds from the sale of donated items going to support Library programs. There are also seasonal sales and fund raising events to support the Library.

Fowler Stratton has done a tremendous job of leading the Friends for the past two years. We give him our grateful appreciation and best wishes as he steps down from the office.

We believe that a lifetime of reading is a lifetime of discovery, reward and stimulation for active minds. Our library is a treasure for every citizen of Port Angeles and we are committed to keeping it strong and vital.

We depend upon the support of members. If you'd like to join the Friends of the Library send an email to us at PAFOL.

At the General Meeting, Paul Mowery stepped down as our financial officer. His service to the Friends has been enormous.
